Cheating Politicians Making a Comeback

If there’s one thing that we learned from the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal, it’s that America is willing to give a second chance to a cheating politician.

Mark Sanford, the South Carolina governor who suspiciously disappeared only to reemerge and admit to an extramarital affair with an Argentine woman, is back. The cloud surrounding his scandal led to issues over misusing public funds for personal matters, and his resignation as chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association. But after winning a special election this past May, Sanford, who is currently engaged to the one-time mistress Maria Belen Chapur, is now a member of the House of Representatives.

The Lure of Cheating for Athletes

athlete-jumpBeing married to a professional athlete may sound like a luxurious fantasy. A life filled with the perks associated with fame and financial freedom.

However, those perks don’t come without a share of unfortunate circumstances. Athletes frequently travel; leaving their girlfriends, wives and/or family behind for long periods of time. As a result, significant daily responsibilities are laid at the feet of those women, who during the season, seemingly run single-parent households.

From Groupie to Stardom

One pictures them anxiously waiting outside dressing rooms backstage, by the bus or limousine just waiting for a chance to see and ideally spend time with the members of their favorite bands or musical groups.

Groupies take the idea of fandom and elevate it to another level. One in which their daily routines, and therefore their lives, revolve around a musician or group of musicians. As often is the case, certain groupies find whatever means necessary to separate themselves from their competitors. The result being that these groupies rise to the top becoming the figureheads for groupies at large, and garnering fame or infamy which can stretch outside the realm of this niche community and spill over into the arena of pop-culture.
